DO IT YOURSELF
If your vehicle has it's own tire changing tools and you are wondering how to change a tire, you can follow these 9 steps to ensure a safe and quick tire change.
1. Disconnect the Battery: Locate the vehicle’s battery and disconnect the negative (-) terminal to prevent electrical shocks.
2. Locate the Alternator: The alternator is typically near the front of the engine, connected to the serpentine belt.
3. Remove the Serpentine Belt: Use a serpentine belt tool or breaker bar to relieve tension from the belt tensioner. Slide the belt off the alternator pulley and note its routing for reinstallation.
4. Disconnect Electrical Connections: Unplug the electrical harness connected to the alternator.
Remove any additional wiring, ensuring you remember where each connection goes.
5. Remove the Alternator: Locate and remove the mounting bolts securing the alternator to the engine bracket. Carefully lift out the old alternator.
6. Install the New Alternator: Position the new alternator in place and secure it with the mounting bolts. Reconnect the electrical harness and wiring.
7. Reinstall the Serpentine Belt: Ensure the belt is routed correctly, following the diagram in your vehicle’s engine bay or manual. Use the belt tensioner to slip the belt back onto the alternator pulley.
8. Reconnect the Battery: Reattach the negative (-) battery terminal.
9. Test the Installation: Start the vehicle and check for proper operation. Use a multimeter to verify the battery voltage is around 13.8–14.2V with the engine running.
